Using technology to make a positive impact has always been an important part of my work as a software developer. In memory of my much-loved cats, Millie, Lilly and Kitzbuhel, I recently completed a pro bono project for Redgate Farm Animal Sanctuary.
The new website provides the sanctuary with a modern online presence alongside a bespoke animal management system developed specifically around the way Redgate Farm works.
The system allows the sanctuary to maintain detailed records for animals in its care, including their medical history, individual needs and any specific adoption requirements. Information from these records can then be used to publish profiles directly to the website, making it easier for potential adopters to learn more about the animals currently looking for their forever homes.
A key part of the project was the development of a fully digital adoption process. Potential adopters can submit their applications online, replacing much of the paperwork previously involved and helping to reduce the administrative burden on the sanctuary.
The system can also use information provided by potential adopters, together with the individual requirements of animals in the sanctuary, to help identify and suggest potentially suitable adoption matches. This gives the team additional support when reviewing applications and finding the right home for each animal.

It has been a privilege to contribute to that work in memory of Millie, Lilly and Kitzbuhel. I hope the new website and management system will make day-to-day administration a little easier and, most importantly, help more animals find the loving forever homes they deserve.
